The Neubie for Wellness

Improve Performance

Athletic performance is not just in the body, it’s also in the brain.  Your brain controls your movement, muscles, and overall health

Above all else, your brain prioritizes survival and wants to be sure you live to see tomorrow.  That often means your brain will “put on the brakes”, limiting your performance to ensure that you don’t get injured.

What does this actually mean?

It means that a targeted, neurological intervention like The Neufit Method, using the Neubie device, can make a difference in your performance.

WE will train you to boost your performance with:

  1.  The Neubie to re-educate your muscles to perform at their highest possible levels.

  2. Strategic mobility drills to bulletproof your joints and improve movement quality and capacity.

  3. Large doses of eccentric movement to train the muscles to become more pliable and absorb greater amounts of force.

  4. Other unique exercises and techniques that will amplify your ability to perform at a high level - starting with the brain and working their way down.

The process in summary does the following:

RE-EDUCATES your muscles to perform at their highest possible level

IMPROVES MOVEMENT QUALITY AND CAPACITY though strategic mobility drills to bulletproof your joints

TRAINS ECCENTRIC MOVEMENTS in large doses to train muscles to be more pliable and absorb greater amounts of force

All new clients to our clinic will need to complete a complementary screening by a therapist prior to your first Neubie session. Please contact our office at 703-844-8699

Boxing Programs

Here at Virginian Rehab and Wellness, we currently offer two opportunities for our patients to fight back against Parkinson’s. Our 1:1 Personal Boxing and Box with A Friend program. Both are client specific and can be modified and personalized to meet each individual’s needs. The purpose of creating this kind of program was to provide a comfortable, safe, and familiar environment for our clients to become a part of the boxing community and experience all the benefits boxing, non-combat of course, has to offer.

For those with Parkinson’s Disease (PD), the first line of defense against the disease is to keep moving and maintain an active engaging lifestyle. These can include joining local fitness or wellness groups. The effects of  boxing specifically are that Boxing is more diverse and has been linked to targeting specific PD symptoms. Boxing not only incorporates cardio, but focuses on regaining one’s balance, hand/eye coordination, agility, flexibility, strength/power, reduces stress and most importantly helps build confidence and the sense of fighting back.

There are many people fighting their own PD battle, but with the help of our 1:1 Personal Boxing Program (PBP), and Box with A Friend, no one has to fight alone. Call us today and sign up! All levels welcome!

It is sponsored by The Parkinson’s Foundation of the National Capital Area and and is offered to PFNCA members only. Pre-registration is not required, but class size is limited.  Participants are encouraged to bring a water bottle to each class.

Stand Tall & Speak Loud

This new class focuses on improving dual tasking, movement, and speech in people with Parkinson’s disease. This class will be taught by our speech therapist, Victoria Pavelko, and our occupational therapist, Matt Haase, in our Chantilly office and is free to participants. The class will allow participants the opportunity to improve their balance, movement quality, overall strength, and flexibility while using diaphragmatic breathing techniques to vocalize louder. Build confidence in your movement and your speech while joining others in the fight of PD.

This FREE group class will be held every Thursday from 12:10-12:55pm in our Chantilly clinic. Please pre-register for the class by calling 703-844-0690 or email us at rehab@vaoptherapy.org. Thanks to Inova Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Center for sponsoring this class.

New!-Yoga for Parkinson’s

This FREE class unites your breath with your body offering a variety of poses accessible to all levels of yoga practitioners. These sessions include strength in the core, balance in the body, as well as increasing flexibility and range of motion. Calm your mind, feel alive and revived throughout the day.

This group class is taught by Maria Malca every Friday from 12:10-12:50pm at the Hamaker clinic. Participants are asked to bring a yoga mat and water bottle. New!- Get Fit with HIIT

This FREE group circuit class aims at improving strength, and cardiovascular endurance in ambulatory clients with Parkinson’s/Parkinsonism, movement disorders, and imbalance. This fun class includes multiple rounds and stations, promoting high intensity effort. Research suggests that HIIT may confer health benefits over moderate-intensity continuous training (traditional endurance exercise) and is generally well-tolerated in older adults.
