Cancer Related Issues

Treatment for cancer has improved dramatically in the past 20, even 5 years, increasing survivorship of those afflicted with all types of cancer. Cancer treatment can involve a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation, all which have side effects.  As survivorship rates improve, more patients are living with impairments because of these treatments.  Cancer treatments can cause limited joint mobility, impaired strength, swelling, skin changes, fatigue or tiredness, and limited endurance for normal activities. The good news is that our physical and occupational therapists can address many if not all impairments with a customized treatment program. One common symptom from cancer or chemotherapy is lymphedema; a build-up of fluid. We have Certified Lymphedema Therapists that work with our patients to alleviate their symptoms, for more information please check out our Lymphedema page.

Our therapists create a personalized treatment plan to help cancer survivors manage side effects of treatment such as pain, fatigue, decreased strength, decreased endurance, stress and swelling.  We work with survivors to improve their health and function, assist their return to work and other important life activities.
