BOOKS:

The Parkinson’s Primer by John Vine – This book is a great resource and tool for people with Parkinson’s AND their family members.  The book is full of information, personal stories, coping strategies and more. John and his wife set out to write the book with the thought in mind of telling others what they wished they had known when they first received the diagnosis.  It is available through several bookstores and online.

PODCASTS:

If you have never listened to a podcast, they are like short radio shows. You can download them and listen on your phone/iPad or listen online.

When Life Gives You Parkinson's.  Started in 2017 by Canadian broadcaster, Larry Gifford.  Larry was diagnosed with Early Onset Parkinson’s at the age of 48.  His response to his diagnosis was to create this podcast.  Larry opens up his life as a person with Parkinson’s and shares his experiences, frustrations, and concerns with living with PD.  We also love that Larry ends every podcast with his wife as they explore the effects of Parkinson’s on her as a caregiver.  We recommend starting at the beginning with the first podcast (2017) to get the best flow but if you just want to try one we highly recommend Episode 14: Exercise is a Real Prescription for Parkinson’s

Substantial Matters: Life and Science of Parkinson’s. “Host Dan Keller, PhD, interviews Parkinson’s experts to highlight the treatments and techniques that can help you live a better life now, as well as the research that can bring a better tomorrow. Episodes focus on a range of topics relevant to your daily life, including new levodopa delivery methods, exercise, clinical trials, nutrition and more!” Bonus with this podcast is there are several presented in Spanish.
